My Friend Becky's story

May 15, 2017

I want to raise awareness of the persecution of the Spiritual Practice Falun Dafa in China. Also, highlight the benefits people have experienced, through meditation and living by the principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance which are the guiding principles of the traditional Chinese mind and body cultivation practice

I was compelled to do this, as the Falun Dafa practitioners I have met, are kind and selfless people. They touch my heart with their kindness.

I met Becky through practicing Falun Dafa in the UK and she has become a close friend although we live in different parts of the country.

Here in her own words, is Becky's story.

Becky James

When I was 18yrs old, I was involved in a car accident.  My sacrum was twisted and lodged in my pelvis, which led at times, to extreme pain and difficulties walking and moving.

This was not my only problem.  In 2005 I had a really serious motorway accident near Bristol, UK.  Although I had no physical injuries, a few months later I had to leave my teaching job as my health declined rapidly.  For the next 6yrs I was unable to lead a normal life.  I was diagnosed with M.E.  I had little energy and spent lots of time in bed. Light hurt my eyes, noise hurt my head, at times I couldn’t hold conversations for more than a few minutes.  My world shrunk.  I was unable to do the normal things I once did, most of the time I was housebound, relying on my husband and family to look after me.

In 2009 I met an English gentleman who told me about Falun Gong,  His girlfriend from China practiced it.  He said simply that it would help my concentration and coordination.  In 2011 a leaflet came through my door to join a local practice site, which I did two days later.  I learnt the 5 gentle exercises of Falun Gong and began to read Zhuan Falun, which teaches truth compassion and tolerance.  I understood immediately it was what I had been looking for and my life turned around. My recovery was really fast.  Within a few months my energy levels became even stronger than before my accident – I got a new life.  My outlook gradually changed as I learned how to live for the benefit of others.  One day as I was sitting in meditation my spine felt really hot and it popped, it didn’t hurt,  and since then I have had no more painful back problems.  Not only me, but my family have benefitted from this great practice, as I can now take care of them.  I regained my energy and zest for life, and I am learning to be kinder and less selfish.

The same time I began to practice Falun Gong, I was also horrified to learn that in China Falun Gong practitioners are being persecuted for their beliefs, and many are been killed for their organs for profit.

My world changed drastically. How could I not do something to shed light on this or stand up for these beliefs? I became involved in raising awareness about these crimes against humanity.  Since then I’ve worked non-stop, along with thousands of others to let people know about the persecution of Falun Gong.  I’ve joined huge parades in London, Europe and the US, supported global petitions like Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting’s petition to the UN (www.dafoh.org), coordinated DAFOH’s visit to the Welsh Assembly, supported film screenings in Parliament such as Hard to Believe and Human Harvest, helped raise awareness contacting UK MP’s and MEP’s in the European Parliament, supported the Art of Zhen Shan Ren Art Exhibitions on its tour in the UK, and more recently, set up the local campaign Bristol Against Forced Organ Harvesting www.bafoh.co.uk.

Last year I helped Ride To Freedom, young Falun Gong practitioners who in 2015 cycled across the US to shed light on the persecution of Falun Gong and orphans whose parents were killed for their belief.  I organised a presentation in Parliament chaired by Jim Shannon MP.  He is terrific.  He was so moved by the young practitioners shedding light on the situation for orphans in China that he called for the first ever back bench business debate on organ harvesting in China in Parliament which was in October last year, and he still continues to stand up to put an end to this horror.

I will continue to do my best until the persecution ends and former Chinese Communist Party Leader, Jiang Zemin is brought to justice for these crimes.

Because of the guidance of this great practice, I have found courage, and the ability to break through extreme fear in order to do what’s right for others, for which I am eternally grateful.
